The Gold Standard of Quality Management

ISO 9001:2015 is the world's most widely adopted international standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS), published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It specifies requirements for a QMS that helps organizations consistently deliver products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

The "2015" refers to the last major revision year. It introduced risk-based thinking, stronger leadership involvement, and alignment with other ISO standards through the High Level Structure (HLS) - making it more practical and results-oriented than ever before.

Why ISO 9001:2015 and Not an Older Version?

ISO 9001:2008 was officially withdrawn in 2018. Any certificate issued under the 2008 version is no longer valid. ISO 9001:2015 is the current, live standard. All certifications must be to the 2015 version. If you have an older certificate, it's already expired. Contact SSATAX to upgrade or get a fresh 2015 certification.

ISO 9001 - What's New in 2025?

ISO is actively developing the next revision. Here's what businesses need to know about current requirements and upcoming changes:

Upcoming Revision

ISO 9001:2025 Under Development

ISO Technical Committee TC176 is working on the next revision of ISO 9001, expected around 2026–2027. The 2015 version remains fully valid and enforceable. Get certified now — certificates issued today remain valid for 3 years.

Climate Action

Climate Change Considerations Added

ISO issued Amendment 1 in 2024 requiring organizations to consider climate change as a relevant issue when determining context and planning QMS. All new certifications and renewals must now address this.

Government Policy

GeM Portal & Make in India Push

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and various Ministry procurement guidelines increasingly prefer or mandate ISO 9001 certified sellers, especially for manufacturing and service categories above ₹25 Lakh.

Digital QMS

Digital Documentation Now Accepted

ISO 9001:2015 fully supports digital/electronic documentation systems. Paper-based Quality Manuals are no longer mandatory — cloud-based QMS tools, SharePoint, or even structured Google Drive systems are acceptable.

MSME Scheme

ZED Certification Linkage

Under the Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) Scheme, MSMEs with ISO 9001 can claim additional ZED rating points, unlocking financial incentives and priority in government procurement.

Surveillance Audits

Annual Surveillance is Mandatory

ISO 9001:2015 certificates require annual surveillance audits in Year 1 and Year 2, and a recertification audit in Year 3. SSATAX provides full support for all surveillance cycles.

Why Are We Different From Other Companies?

The ISO certification market is crowded with providers claiming to be the "fastest" and the "cheapest." Here's an honest comparison:

Typical ISO Consultants

Generic templates are provided without understanding your business. This often leads to audit issues and certification delays.
Communication becomes limited after payment. Clients are left with vague updates and little transparency.
Additional charges appear later in the process, often under the excuse of "extra certification body fees."
You are expected to prepare most of the documentation yourself while the consultant only reviews it.
No reminders for surveillance audits, causing certificates to lapse without notice.
Unclear information about accreditation validity and international acceptance of the certificate.

SSATAX Advantage

Custom documentation tailored to your actual business processes—never generic templates. Audit-ready approach.
Dedicated WhatsApp manager providing real-time updates at every stage of the certification journey.
Zero hidden charges - all costs, including certification body fees, are disclosed upfront in writing.
We prepare all documentation - Quality Manual, SOPs, Risk Register, Internal Audit reports, and more.
Free surveillance audit reminders for Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 recertification audits.
Forbes Award 2024 & 5,752 Google Reviews - a reputation built on proven results, not just marketing claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions businesses ask before getting ISO 9001:2015 certified.

ISO 9001:2015 is a voluntary standard — there is no law in India mandating it for most businesses. However, it is effectively mandatory for businesses that want to:

  • Bid for Central or State Government tenders where it's listed as a qualification criterion
  • Become a vendor for large corporates (Tata, Mahindra, BHEL, etc.)
  • Export to European, Middle Eastern, or US markets where buyers require it
  • Register on the GeM portal in certain product/service categories

So while not legally mandatory, ISO 9001 is commercially essential for growth-oriented businesses.

With SSATAX, the complete certification process typically takes 15–30 working days depending on your organization's size and documentation readiness:

  • Small business (under 25 employees): 7–15 days
  • Medium company (25–150 employees): 15–25 days
  • Large enterprise (150+ employees): 25–45 days

The most time-intensive step is the certification body's audit scheduling. SSATAX ensures all prep is done before that so there are no delays on our side.

ISO 9001:2015 certificates are valid for 3 years. However, during this period:

  • Year 1: Surveillance Audit 1 (confirms QMS is maintained)
  • Year 2: Surveillance Audit 2
  • Year 3: Recertification Audit (renews the 3-year cycle)

Missing a surveillance audit can lead to suspension or withdrawal of the certificate. SSATAX sends free reminders and provides full support for all surveillance cycles.

Absolutely. ISO 9001:2015 is explicitly designed to be applicable to organizations of any size in any sector. There is no minimum turnover, employee count, or business age requirement.

In fact, many startups and MSMEs get ISO certified early specifically to unlock access to corporate and government clients that would otherwise be unavailable to them. SSATAX has a specialized package for micro and small businesses starting at just ₹2,499.

These terms are often used interchangeably, but technically:

  • ISO Certification: An accredited third-party certification body audits your organization and issues a certificate confirming compliance. This is the recognized, globally valid form.
  • ISO Registration: Some registrar bodies "register" you in their directory. This may or may not be backed by an actual audit.

Always ensure your ISO certificate is issued by an accredited certification body (accredited by NABCB in India, or internationally by UKAS, DAkkS, etc.). SSATAX only works with accredited bodies. Certificates from non-accredited bodies are frequently rejected by tender committees.

Costs have two components:

  • Consultant/Facilitation Fee (SSATAX): Starting ₹2,499 for small businesses. Includes documentation, preparation, and audit coordination.
  • Certification Body Audit Fee: Varies by auditor/body and organization size. Typically ₹8,000–₹25,000 for small businesses. SSATAX will communicate this upfront.

Total all-in cost for a small business: typically ₹12,000–₹30,000. This is a one-time cost for a 3-year valid certificate — less than ₹1,000 per month.

No. ISO 9001:2015 works with your existing processes — it doesn't ask you to run your business differently. What it requires is that your processes are:

  • Documented and defined clearly
  • Monitored and measured regularly
  • Improved when gaps are found

Our consultants document what you're already doing well and help structure it to meet the ISO framework. Most businesses find that the QMS documentation process actually gives them clarity they lacked before.

Post-COVID, most accredited certification bodies now offer remote/online audits as a standard option, especially for small and medium businesses. Physical visits may be needed for manufacturing units where process observation is important.

SSATAX coordinates with the certification body to recommend the most suitable audit mode for your business type, keeping travel costs and inconvenience to a minimum.

Yes — provided the certificate is issued by an internationally accredited certification body. SSATAX partners only with bodies accredited under the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (IAF MLA), which means certificates are mutually recognized in 100+ countries.

Always check that the certificate carries the accreditation body mark (e.g., NABCB, UKAS, DAkkS) alongside the certification body mark. SSATAX ensures this is always the case.

Audit findings come in two types:

  • Minor Non-Conformities: Corrective actions must be submitted within 30–90 days. Certificate is issued once actions are accepted. Very common, not a failure.
  • Major Non-Conformities: Require a re-audit of the specific clause. Rare when SSATAX prepares your documentation and conducts an internal audit first.

SSATAX guarantees that if our internal audit passes you, major non-conformities at external audit are extremely unlikely. In the rare event of a major finding, we support your corrective actions at no extra charge.
